A message from the Rodeo Secretary:

Entry Procedure for Spring 2010

  • A contestant may email their entries to me at bagshaws@usd413.org beginning the Sunday prior to call in for that specific rodeo. Example: email entries for the Kingman rodeo will be March 1 through March 3 at 6pm.  A confirmation email will be returned to you, if you do not receive a confirmation email from me YOU ARE NOT ENTERED and you must call in at the regular call in time on March 3rd.
  • A contestant may still call in their entries to me during call in times 10 days before rodeo date.

I would also like to remind all members that all entry fees MUST be paid before you will be allowed to compete.  This means that if you are entered at a rodeo on Saturday, that all fees must be paid before competing on Saturday.  The only exception to this is if you are entered in the cutting, fees can be paid after competition. If for some reason you are unable to attend and have not drawn out, your entry fees for the missed rodeo MUST be paid before you will be allowed to enter the next rodeo.  This means that you need to contact the rodeo secretary immediately to make arrangements for payment.

I hope that you all had a safe and warm winter, I look forward to seeing you at Kingman.

My cell phone number is 620-431-8594 in case you need to contact me on the way to the rodeo. Please put this in your cell phone contacts.

At the rodeos there will be an
"Entry Notebook" that you can enter all of the rodeos you will be attending.  If you put your entry in the notebook, you will not have to call in to enter.  Please do not call the individual rodeo committees if you did not get entered in a rodeo - they can not help you.

The only way to enter a rodeo is through the Entry Secretary and/or the Rodeo Entry book.

You pay your rodeo entry fees when you arrive at the rodeo.

The entry fees are $35 for cutting, $25 per person for team roping and $30 for all other events.

If you want to
draw out your entry for a rodeo, you must do so by 6:00pm Sunday before the rodeo you want to draw out.  If you draw out after that time, you must pay all entry fees before entering next rodeo.

Medical and Vet Releases
need to be called to secretary before 6:00pm on Friday prior to the rodeo - I need that information prior to leaving on Friday evening. If you Vet Release at the rodeo, your vet needs to fax me a letter on business letterhead Monday following the rodeo or you will be responsible for entire entry fees.

The 2008-2009 Kansas High School handbook had some discrepancies. These are the corrections that should be noted and will take precedence. Correction pages will be available at Eureka to be inserted into your KHSRA Handbook. I apologize for this oversight, and I hope that this will not cause an inconvenience to any KHSRA member and/or confusion.
Please note the following corrections: (inserts will be available for your handbooks)
1.  pg:12 Under Misc. Guideline #5 (concerning graduation) Last sentence reads: "If entered in Team Roping this will apply to the roping partners."
please add: " Team roping partner may compete on both steers in one day.  All other events will be ran as normal. (i.e. if partner is entered in Tie Down, you will
still compete on your calf, Saturday and Sunday as normal."
2.  pg: 14 Under Points section - start with bullet which reads, "Points from 80% of the qualifying rodeos:
correction: change to:   Example - If we have 24 qualifying rodeos (each day is a rodeo) you will be allowed to carry your best 20 rodeos to state finals,
     a max of 200 pts.
3.  3rd bullet: correction and should read: * carry all points if you have not gotten points in 80% of the rodeos.
4.  pg: 15 - begin at - These points will be won in the 1st round, 2nd round, short round, and the (add: the word - average). Maximum points possible at finals is 45
points.   delete: or 30% of what is brought in.
        next paragraph reads:
Maximum points brought into finals = 150 (based on 30 rodeos)  correction and should read: Maximum points brought into finals = 200 points (based on 24 rodeos)
Again, if any member has a question about the above corrections, feel free to contact me or any Board Member.
Thank you - Val

All Around Points

All around state points are computed much differently than event points.

This information is from page #35 of the 2003-2004 rulebook.

In each event there are 500 points possible plus 5 points for each contestant in an event.

Example:  Calf roping has 44 contestants.  500 points + 220 (44x5)= 720 points all around points available in calf roping.

The percentages used to award all around points are

1st - 29%

2nd - 24%

3rd - 19%

4th - 14%

5th - 9%

6th - 5%

Using the points from my example above 1st place in calf roping would receive 208.8 all around points (720 x 29%).

Only contestants placing 1st - 6th receive all around points.

Rookie points are figured the same as the all around points.  A Rookie is a contestant who is a first year member of the NHSRA regardless of what grade they are in.

If you enter a rodeo and don't show up to compete, you must pay all entry fees BEFORE you will bee allowed to enter/compete in another rodeo.

Absolutely no entries will be accepted after entry closing date for whatever reason.

Rodeo Draw

The draw for each rodeo will be posted on the website the Wednesday night before the rodeo.  The order of events is not always the same at each rodeo.  Be sure and check the order of events when you arrive at the rodeo.

Rodeo Attire

You must be in full rodeo attire  one hour before the performance until  the end of the performance each day.  Your back number must be worn at all times during the rodeo performance and after the rodeo performance.  Even when you go out Saturday evening your number must be worn.

All-Star Team Qualifications

I checked into how the Wrangler All-Star Team Members were selected while I was at the Finals this year.  They suggested that we put this information on the website because many people don't know how the selection is done.  This information is explained in more detailed on pages 103-105 of the 2008-2010 rulebook.

The Wrangler All Star Team consists of the top two finishing underclassmen for the year in each event in each state and province will unofficially earn a position on the wrangler team for the next year.  The 2009/2010 All Star Team comes from the results of the 2008/2009 rodeo season.

The 2009/2010 All Star team will be notified by mail from the national office.

In order to officially be placed on the team, each member nominated must rejoin the NHSRA by September 15 and be a member in good standing both nationally and on the state level.

In order to be officially placed on the team each member must agree to wear their Wrangler All Star Team shirts only with Wrangler jeans when competing at any type of event regardless of whether it is an NHSRA function or not.

The selection process begins with the events with the least number of contestants to the greatest number of contestants.

Seniors from the 2009/2010 rodeo season are not eligible to be nominated to the All-Star team of 2008/2009.   If the first 2 placings are seniors, the members will be picked for the next placings on down to 8th place.  Example:  If 1st, 2nd & 3rd place are seniors, the 4th & 5th place would be nominated to the All Star team.

A contestant can only be nominated from one event.  If a person qualifies in two events, the next person will be selected on down to 8th place.  Example:  If 1st place cutting and 1st place calf roping was the same person, that person would be chosen for cutting and the 2nd and 3rd place people in calf roping would be nominated.

Half & Half Tickets

Half and half tickets will be sold at each rodeo performance.

One-half of the money goes to help support the KHSRA Scholarship Fund and the other half goes to the lucky person with the winning ticket.  We hope everyone will participate and help support the scholarship fund. Who knows, you might be that lucky winner!!!
