RODEO SCHOOL TO BE HELD
Nebraska Rodeo Hosts Pro Rodeo Instruction
for Youth
Curtis , Neb. : (March 4, 2010) - The North Platte, Neb. rodeo committee will host a one day
rodeo instructional school on Sat., March 20 in Curtis , Nebraska .
The school will feature non-riding instruction in the events of bareback riding,
saddle bronc riding, and bull riding. Curriculum will include safety, chute procedures, an overview of
riding equipment, livestock safety, injury prevention and management, and an introduction to the Pro Rodeo Cowboys Association
(PRCA).
The
school is open to anyone ages 10 and older.
It’s “something to help generate interest in younger kids and the
next generation,” said Jack Morris, board member with the Buffalo Bill Rodeo committee in North Platte .
The school will be taught by PRCA cowboys.
So far, 36 students are registered. Most of them are high
school and middle school youth from Nebraska , northeast Colorado , and Kansas .
The school will be held at the Nebraska
College of Technical Agriculture’s arena in Curtis. “We’re grateful for the support of
the college in allowing us to use their indoor arena,” Morris said.
The goal of the school, he said, is to educate
more young people and their parents about rodeo. “The more kids we can get to take a look at it,
the more possibilities there are for them” to compete. The school is a non-riding event, which means
attendees will not get on bucking horses or bulls for practice.
For more information or to register for the school, contact Julie Jutten at
the PRCA at 719.304.1471 or jjutten@prorodeo.com.
“It’s
a win-win deal,” said Morris.
The
KJBA (Kansa Junior Bull Riders Association) is a new rough stock association that was started in 2008. We are now going
into our 2nd Winter Series and are looking for rough stock riders (boys and girls). For our Winter Series
that begins in November and runs thru March, the KJBA is offering a buckle to every kid that makes it to finals plus awards
and a chance to compete at the JBR in Oklahoma with an estimated $35,000 added money plus awards. There is also an opportunity
for the Champion and Res Champion to qualify for the YBR (Youth Bull Riders) to be held in Texas where kids will compete against
kids from the US , Canada , Mexico , & Australia . It also has an estimated $20,000 added money for the kids plus
additional awards. We are hoping by asking you to put this information on the KS High School Website, we can continue
to grow. Attached is our flyer for our Winter Series or people may go to www.kjba.org and check us out.
